About us
The use of the international languages of Sport, Leisure and the Performing Arts are the tools used by DAC in helping to promote drugs and sexual health awareness. D.A.C. provides a much needed resource of out of school activities. (sporting tournaments, music events etc.)
DAC Objectives are:
1. To reduce the harmful effects of drug taking by educating users about safer ways of using drugs based on the latest research
2. To become the authority on drugs information and provide a positive message, especially to the youth.
What is unique about the approach?
DAC is not a 'say no' campaign. We know people take drugs and there is no amount of researching or campaigning that is ever going to change this fact. Our immediate message is 'if you're going to do drugs, here are some easy ways of avoiding health and social problems'.
The main outlet for the message will be music and sporting events, fronted by personalities, funded by DAC Discount Card sales and brands with a similar message, supported by the authorities
D.A.C. have gained the support of well-known personalities and performers (“teen heroes”) whom young people see as 'role models' to help get the message across that ' the misuse
of drugs is neither cool or glamorous'.
Local Drug Prevention Agencies, drugs counsellors and safe sexual health promoters relevant to the target market will attend all D.A.C. events and will be the source of all
educational material.
The Drugs Awareness Campaign ethos was developed out of a desire to help provide access to leisure activities & promote alternative healthy lifestyles but ensuring that its affordable. This gave rise to The DAC Discount Card Scheme giving discounts at popular outlets and leisure services whilst providing a funding source for the events programme.
Our team currently relies on volunteer help. And remember, a little often goes a long way.
We're always happy to welcome new volunteers who would like to dedicate some of their time to our non-profit organisation. If you'd like to lend a hand, please don't hesitate to contact us. New support is always welcome.
