Bristol mayor backs anti-drugs initiative - Bristol Evening Post - December 23rd 2009

The Lord Mayor of Bristol Chris Davies helped to launch a new drugs awareness campaign in the city.
The DAC is not a 'Say No' campaign, but a major awareness drive designed to capture the attention of young people aged eight to 14.
Michael Hall, 48, who is behind the campaign, said the aim was to provide information and advice from drug prevention and sexual health agencies at sporting, leisure and performing arts events which
are attended by young people.
Mr Davies said: "We are all aware that drugs misuse is one of the most difficult challenges facing us today, but with campaigns that offer education and information I am confident that slowly we can
overcome a problem which particularly blights the lives of young people.
"This is an imaginative scheme, using as it does discount cards to raise funds and to encourage healthy alternative occupations, and by making information available to young people and their parents
at leisure activities and venues.
"Thank you on behalf of all the people in Bristol for the work you are doing and on behalf of all the people who will benefit from this campaign."
To raise funds for the campaign, special £5 discount cards are being sold through schools, newsagents, universities and colleges, at public stands and listed outlets.
The cardholder gets, on average, a 10 per cent discount on all transactions. Schools and colleges receive £1 for every card sold.
The Drugs Awareness Campaign is seeking more outlets in Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Bath and is offering a free page on its website for a year when they join the scheme.
Supporters so far include Bristol Ice Rink, Caffe Gusto, Snappy Snaps, Kiris Barbershop, Vincenzo's Pizza House, Bristol Martial Arts Academy, Bristol Ferry Boat Company, La Tasca, Bluefish Financial
Services, Sprinters Printers, Dragons Grill, Rollermania, Sweetstore, Nail Expression, and Salsa Mania.
